Glasgow womens 10k.

Today was my 4th womens 10k. This was the first race that I ever done and from memory I think todays was approx 10 mins faster than that first ever one.

Lots of false starts for me with this race. First Sav signed up and then realised that she was not even in the country. Then my Mum signed up which really pleased me and I thought I would run with her and encourage her. However after 3 weeks in Oz my Mum decided on Friday that she was not fit enough. This left me with the crushing thought that I would have to actually run this at a decent pace, oh no!

Two weeks post Highland Fling I really didn't know what I had in my legs. A trip down with a few other Harriers and then meeting the other Harrier I still felt good and positive. A good wee chin wag with Sandra on the start line and reality began to hit home, oops was I really ready for this.

I decided I would run the first 5k giving it eveything and see where it went from there, well by 3k my legs were empty and the thought of even another 2k at this speed was a bad thought. I basically had to push my self round the rest of the run and use every butt kicking technique I knew. Now and again I could see Angela up ahead but there was nothing I could do to lessen the distance. I was being passed by lots of runners that I had passed up until the 5k mark again there was nothing I could do about it.
I was counting down every k and really struggling. Looking at my garmin once home shows a general slowing over second half but a wee pick up for last mile.

If I want to maintain or ever beat my 10k time I need to start training properly and stop hiding behind long slow runs.

The details: 20.51@5k, 42.44 and 58th position.
Been thinking for a while that blogging is a very good way to record your thoughts, achievements and other things that I forget so easily.

So here goes, I think first few posts may be a bit mixed up time wise until I get caught up.
